Nowadays, I am working as a physical
education teacher in a primary school with children from 6 to 12 years old. When
I started to study some of the courses which I was interested in as, for
example, bandage sports, first aid, sports massages. I consider all this
courses very important for a teacher, above all, for a physical education since
you can have any problem with a child from a fall to bleeding and you can do it
best until he is medically attended. I have been working in different schools
and, indeed, I have shared my different point of views about this problem with another
teacher who I have worked with. They share my opinion and they are in favour of
doing these courses to improve our preparation when we face to this such
problem.
I was not offered these courses not only for
economical reasons but also the shortage of professional teachers which they
didn’t consider so important. Nowadays, these courses are offered, maybe, they
consider that they are very necessary for his subject. In these courses it is
applied both theory and practice.
For example, in the “Bandage sport” course you are taught the different kinds of
compressive bandages for the typical injuries which usually happen doing exercise
during our class, such as, sprained ankle, sprained wrist, backache and the
typical falls with any kind of bleeding till they are medically attended.
The course related to “Sports massages” is really considered very important
in our sector since it is used as a prevention measure for any muscle injure,
such in a way, the child learns to do it by himself that means, the child
learns to massage himself after doing a physical effort. Lately as our subject
is done both indoors and outdoors, the injuries are much more frequent owing to
the physical exercise done and therefore the “First Aid” course is essential to be prepared for these
situations. If I had to choose one of them as priority, I would choose the last
one of them as priority; I would choose the last one I mentioned, since the
life of a child is in danger and you must react before it with the most
effectiveness and quickness as possible.
While I was doing my practical sessions in a
school, I noticed when something happened to a child, the physical education
teacher was the person who had to face to this problem and his responsibility
was enormous. For my reason, I consider these very important for your training
because although I consider this responsibility wouldn’t be imposed to the
physical education teacher, the reality is that nowadays most of schools stem their
responsibility to the P.E. teachers.
In
my opinion, all schools should have a trained professional from the same centre
to face to any problem or personal health who are usually in charge of this
usual things.
