Which training courses would you like to have access?

Nowadays, I am working as a physical education teacher in a primary school with children from 6 to 12 years old. When I started to study some of the courses which I was interested in as, for example, bandage sports, first aid, sports massages. I consider all this courses very important for a teacher, above all, for a physical education since you can have any problem with a child from a fall to bleeding and you can do it best until he is medically attended. I have been working in different schools and, indeed, I have shared my different point of views about this problem with another teacher who I have worked with. They share my opinion and they are in favour of doing these courses to improve our preparation when we face to this such problem.

I was not offered these courses not only for economical reasons but also the shortage of professional teachers which they didn’t consider so important. Nowadays, these courses are offered, maybe, they consider that they are very necessary for his subject. In these courses it is applied both theory and practice.

For example, in the Bandage sport” course you are taught the different kinds of compressive bandages for the typical injuries which usually happen doing exercise during our class, such as, sprained ankle, sprained wrist, backache and the typical falls with any kind of bleeding till they are medically attended.

The course related to Sports massages is really considered very important in our sector since it is used as a prevention measure for any muscle injure, such in a way, the child learns to do it by himself that means, the child learns to massage himself after doing a physical effort. Lately as our subject is done both indoors and outdoors, the injuries are much more frequent owing to the physical exercise done and therefore the First Aid” course is essential to be prepared for these situations. If I had to choose one of them as priority, I would choose the last one of them as priority; I would choose the last one I mentioned, since the life of a child is in danger and you must react before it with the most effectiveness and quickness as possible.

While I was doing my practical sessions in a school, I noticed when something happened to a child, the physical education teacher was the person who had to face to this problem and his responsibility was enormous. For my reason, I consider these very important for your training because although I consider this responsibility wouldn’t be imposed to the physical education teacher, the reality is that nowadays most of schools stem their responsibility to the P.E. teachers.

In my opinion, all schools should have a trained professional from the same centre to face to any problem or personal health who are usually in charge of this usual things.

How would you assess their learning?

If I were not so limited for my curriculum when I have to include so many aspects of my working life, I would include same personal views about Physical Education teaching in the students.

Nowadays, not only all the schools take into account the CLIL method in their educative projects. For this reason, each school can choose if they teach their subjects in a foreign language or not. I really think that it´s a mistake not learning English since an early age. If you do this task more attractive for them when they are little, they will learn to appreciate it. Besides, my subject has a lot of advantages respect to others because in physical education you can learn in a funny and simple way.

If a were a teacher in a future and could decide how to organize my classes, I would start to speak them since children´s education although wouldn´t  understand me well. I know this is not a problem in my subject, because I am aware of beingable  to use also gestual language to communicate with them, and they can also use this method with their friends.

I consider that the control of their development related to their progress in a foreign language would be evaluated each certain time not only for any teacher of each subject but also there would be a general proof where many kinds of vocabulary are evaluated and so it can get information about each child, in general terms, about his English level, but at the same time find out in which type of vocabulary he makes more mistakes or not. Through this periodical evaluation, parents could know their progress deeply and so know what are really their needs.
If I could put into practice this method, I would do it at the beginning of the course with the main objective that each teach could really evaluate their progress.

Depending  of the level of each course; I would have to adapt the level of the contents, procedures and attitudes related to the foreign language skills, personally, when they have to communicate in English without forgetting, as I have said before, that the gestures are as important as the oral communication in physical education subject.

To sum up, I am conscious that if we want a good learning of the language at the same time they are learning our subject, we must start since an early age because it´s really true that children learn much better when they are little. But his method will not work if schools don´t carry out a deep control about the evaluation of each child regarding their English level.

I am really convinced that if this would be carried out, the Spain English level would be superior to another countries.

My english language portfolio for my classes

I consider that this projects is completely useful to work with students since it has been designed and elaborated thinking about the needs of each student. However, the application of this method can vary according to the background of each learner.

On the one hand, having a previous information about the level of the class in which you are going to develop this project it helps you to elaborate a proper English Language Portfolio.

Besides, joining the students in different groups regardless the background of each student so as to get the most information of each one. Any idea can always be good for their project.

Another advantage is that this method gets better the autonomy of each one at the same time they work in groups not always depending on their teacher.

I consider that one of them main advantage is that having worked this portfolio this portfolio really well they will be able to use it as a tool of learning when they need.

On the other hand, we must consider that not all the students have the same background and their needs are really different, if you create a ELP in general depending on the level of each learner they will need more or less time to adapt it. Indeed, if they have more problems to work with it, they will need more teachers help as a teacher, we must always take into account this factor. For that reason, we must have a lot of information about each student which will help us to get better their evolution.

For me, the main disadvantage will be how to evaluate each student their participation and progress in this project.

If they do not finish their tasks at school, they will have to finish at home and evidently is a disadvantage because you do not really know if they have made an effort and have do the task themselves or this has been done by another person. Related to this, it is also difficult to know if they have worked the same amount of time since most of the time not all of them work equally.

To sum up, I consider that ELP is a really interesting project to do during my sessions with my learners because it can be very positive in their learning. I am aware of the difficulty of this task so I will have to do it well before.

TDAH

The TDAH is an attention deficit disorder with hyperactivity or not. It is a behaviour disorder which appears at the age of seven. It is related to an increase of the physical activity and difficulty to pay attention.

For this reason, this is an interesting subject to be treated in this blog, since many of the children who are in our classes suffer from this disorder and we must be prepared to work for any difficulty.

Personally, as a physical education teacher, I have been looking for information about it and here I leave you my link about Tatamiterapia, a very interesting way to work with them, since a therapy  is done using judo as vehicular activity.

Here I leave you another links related to TDAH which I consider very interesting!

Plurilingual education program in Valencia community

Due to the necessities of the society, Ministry of Education is trying to incorporate a foreign language to an early eage. The objective is to get a good competence in the official languages such as valencian, spanish and a foreign language besides a proper control, at least, of one of them. For this reason, it is allowed to begin a very singular multilingual educative system from Valencia community.
I think that Spain has tried to get the same level as Europe related to the learning of a foreign language, in this case, English.

They have done all of this too quick and this is having a lot of negative consequences prioriticing the learning in a foreign language before knowing deeply the person who is teaching this subject. What I mean that it´s more important for them the tittles that you own than your personal profile.
I agree with this system related to this subject, but in my opinion, I consider that we should dispose more time to prepare as teachers with a good level and so we could teach our classes without forgetting personal matters about them.

My best teacher

The adaptation of a child to school is a really important thing in his life, so teachers have the duty that this experiencie is possitive for them.
I consider that teaching is a hard work because it's not only a job, Before being a teacher of any subject, you must be a teacher of life ,in general, sometimes acting as a doctor, as a father paying attention all their needs. Most of teachers don't realise until it's too late.

I have been very fortunate with my teachers as in primary as in secundary school since most of them have been confident, professional and could speak with them really well. If I didn't understand any thing, they had the ability to explain me the same thing from different points of views.

It's very important for the teacher that he really knows their students to keep a balance among them to be friendly at the same time not be too strict.

For this reason, I recommend you that during the first days at school you aren't extremely friendly until you don't know your students well.

My favourite teacher was funny and had a great personality being very close to us when had a problem.

Although I'm still begining as a teacher, I hope to be as him a future to trace in this important way as for them as for me.

Is lecturing culturally biased?

According to some recent studies, working in an interactive way with students of different cultures is much better because thanks to the communications they will get the same integration. It does not matter neither races nor gender.

I think that it is very important for them that they don’t work alone at home, but if they work together creating small groups, they could explain their main ideas and look for the best solutions to resolve any doubt. It´s true that is a difficult work for teachers because there are students with different cultural levels to integrate in the same group. Besides, their background influences in their academic level.

From my point of view, this would be a well-done work for the education in my country and after getting this objective, would be easier to teach, but I consider this work is a bit complicated because not all the students behave in the same way.
